Photos on resumes

Kate Southam

Rachel’s dad told her that the best way to stand out from the crowd is to include a photo of yourself with your resume. Is he right?

Sorry Rachel’s dad but including photos on resumes is considered candidate folly unless it is directly relevant such as for an acting or modelling role.

I can tell from the emails I get from overseas that there are some templates used in Europe that include photographs but it is definitely not an Aussie thing. In fact, including a photo provides an opportunity for an employer to discriminate against you based on age and looks.
